Shanon Cabebe (2015-2016)
An exciting hunt with a great reward. After scouting this ram for several months, we were able to find him again the day before the season opened. Opening morning we found him with a group of rams chasing a ewe that was in season. The sheep were in the bottom of the canyon and Shanon and his guide Matt St.Martin were on the rim above them. It was too far to shot and the wind was not in our favor. Shanon and Matt decided to drop off the ridge and cross the canyon below the sheep to get on the opposite ridge. Just as they topped out on the opposite ridge, the ewe decided to take the rams to the same saddle at a run. It got a little tense for a minute or two. Shanon got ready for a shot at 70 yards but the rams all bunched up in a small group leaving no safe shot. It was a stand-off until the ewe decided to move. Once she moved, most of the rams took a step or two, leaving the big ram standing in the open, end of story!!! Shanon’s Boone & Crocket ram was the largest ram taken in the state for this year. You can read more of Shanon’s story in the October 2016 issue of the “Huntin’ Fool” magazine and his picture made the front cover. Check it out in “Great Reads”. Shanon’s two friends, Dan and Tucker were able to watch the whole event unfold through their spotting scopes. Congratulations Shanon!!
